A stronger long-term financial outlook for Sheffield has been set out by the Council, alongside plans to address short-term budget pressures.
Reports due to be considered by the Strategy and Resources Committee on 2 September set out the Council’s updated Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) and the latest budget monitoring position for 2026/27.
The updated MTFS covers the period from 2027/28 to 2030/31 and shows a significantly improved financial position compared with previous forecasts. The Council’s mid-case forecast identifies a budget gap of £10.4 million by 2030/31, compared with funding gaps that were previously expected to be closer to £70 million over a similar period.
The improved position reflects expected benefits from national funding reforms, robust financial management, updated forecasts of future demand and ongoing transformation through the organisation’s Future Sheffield programme.
