Sheffield loves snooker – and it’s here to stay!
Today we have announced the fantastic news that the World Snooker Championships will remain at the iconic Crucible theatre until at least 2045! We have secured a landmark long-term agreement between WST and Sheffield City Council.
And we have also announced plans for £45 million investment to refurbish the Crucible. This will add 50% more seats and make it a world-class theatre in the round.
This has taken a lot of hard work over the last few years. Thank you to everyone at the Council who has worked to make this happen, alongside our partners at Sheffield Theatres and World Snooker.
Like snooker, Sheffield is global and growing. We are growing our economy, driving forward regeneration, putting culture and sport at the heart of our plans, taking Sheffield to the world and bringing the world to Sheffield.
Sheffield Labour councillors will always fight for what our city deserves. Working with our brilliant Labour MPs, Mayor Oliver Coppard and a Labour Government, this is what we can deliver.
We are the home of snooker and this city loves snooker. It’s here to stay and this is a great day for Sheffield.
