New Orange buses unveiled for 'People's Network' by SY Mayor Oliver Coppard and Council Leader Tom Hunt

Privatisation has caused huge damage to our transport networks.

For too long we’ve had ever-increasing fares for unreliable services, putting profits over people. It’s time for services that serve the public!

South Yorkshire’s Labour Mayor Oliver Coppard yesterday launched the South Yorkshire Transport Vision and the South Yorkshire People’s Network – an integrated approach to transport for our region that combines buses, bikes, trams and, in time, trains too (https://www.sypn.gov.uk).

Bus franchising begins in 2027 – across the network this will mean:

  • Cheaper fares
  • Better routes on cleaner buses
  • Timetables that work better for everyone

Free travel for young people

Sheffield Labour councillors are also progressing a scheme for FREE bus and tram travel for people 18 and under, starting before franchising, to encourage young people on to public transport and to cut the cost of living for families.
